Following the Club World Cup, Real Madrid’s midfield issues remain impossible to ignore and continue to be a key area the team needs to address. Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso and his coaching staff still believe the team requires a deep-lying playmaking midfielder.
While Turkish youngster Arda Güler put in an impressive performance for the team in this year’s Club World Cup, his standout displays showcased his potential and ability, bringing new energy to Real Madrid’s midfield. However, the departure of Luka Modrić has indeed weakened Real’s midfield. The Croatian legend’s passing, organizing, and orchestrating abilities were indispensable to the team, and his exit has impacted the midfield’s creativity and control to a certain extent.
Yet, the club’s hierarchy feels they have not yet found any player on the market who they deem good enough. It is understood that Real Madrid currently has no plans to sign a midfielder, as the club has not found a satisfactory midfield option in the transfer market.
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is unwilling to pay exorbitant wages for players he deems unworthy. However, if Manchester City midfielder Rodri were to become available, he would move immediately. As things stand, no player in the current transfer market has convinced Florentino to meet such a price tag.
Beyond that, Real Madrid plans to sign a central defender in 2026, rather than this summer.
