The crisis-mode Manchester United prepare to host the high-flying Sunderland as Ruben Amorim's future hangs in the balance.
Old Trafford will hold its collective breath when Manchester United, with a perilous home Premier League record under Ruben Amorim, hosts Sunderland, who arrive in high spirits.
Amorim might certainly be on borrowed time as his side crashed to an embarrassing 3-1 away defeat at Brentford. The Red Devils, chasing consecutive league victories, were humbled in London after a tame display. A Nathan Collins red card would've changed the game for sure, but the issues run deeper than that. Bruno Fernandes' missed penalty epitomises the lack of confidence in the camp as the manager clearly failed to motivate his players. Their incredibly high line with slow defenders was deservingly punished by Brentford, and the visitors on Saturday will be drawing up their battle plans in line with that. Anything less than a win on Saturday might spell the end of the road for Amorim, just a year after his appointment during the international break.
Sunderland's return to the Premier League has been stunning so far, to say the least. The Black Cats are playing lovely football, scoring goals, frustrating opposition, and, more importantly, winning games. Their most recent away win at Nottingham Forest showed why they deserved to be there after a gritty display. A raft of new signings adapted seamlessly to the Premier League, as Regis Le Bris is enjoying life on Tyneside. They will be eying a humongous upset against an opposition that they have won only twice in the last 30 meetings. If the Black Cats can go toe to toe, there is no reason why they couldn't get a result at Old Trafford. A spot in the top four is up for grabs if they can seal all three points.

The in-form Gunners host the Hammers in a London Derby on Saturday afternoon with eyes on top of the table.
Arsenal have a brief chance to head to the top of the table if they can take three points off a struggling West Ham United in an entertaining Saturday afternoon clash in the Premier League. West Ham are looking to seal a hattrick of wins at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal were minutes away from losing to a resilient Newcastle United last weekend before turning up the heat. Mikel Merino and Gabriel's late goals, coupled with Liverpool's slip-up against Crystal Palace, put them in a fantastic position in the league. The late goal formula they discovered against Manchester City has revitalised their early season as they look in fine form. The Gunners followed it up with a routine but nervy 2-0 victory against Olympiacos in the Champions League midweek to stay in top shape before the Hammers visit them. West Ham have been a thorn in Arsenal's path in the recent past. The hosts would love to thrash a struggling opponent and make a statement in the Premier League.
West Ham United welcomed Nuno Espirito Santo with open arms as the Portuguese manager delivered a point on his debut. It arrested a two-game losing run as the Hammers sit firmly in 19th with just 4 points to their name. Nuno made subtle tweaks to Graham Potter's squad and immediately delivered results. Fixing a leaky defence that conceded the most goals in the league will be his immediate priority. He deployed Soungoutou Magassa as a destroyer against Everton to screen the defence. Although his sides are not known for bucket loads of goals, he can teach efficiency to an attack with plenty of talent. Facing Arsenal in just his second game would pose a challenge, but do not write off the Hammers under Nuno from making it 3 wins in 3 at Arsenal's home ground.

3. Chelsea vs Liverpool

The evening kickoff on Saturday couldn't be more important to the two sides in desperate need of a win for different reasons. Under-fire Chelsea host rusty Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in what appears to be an early Premier League classic.
Chelsea appear to be in what could be called a first injury crisis of the season, as their centre-back options are decimated. Coupled with their dire form in the league, where they picked only one point of the available 9, Enzo Maresca's side are a defeat away from pressure mounting on all fronts. The Blues managed to just beat Benfica in the Champions League midweek, but were on the receiving end of two crushing defeats at the hands of Brighton and Manchester United in the league. Maresca's bloated squad, which has a massive difference in quality, is struggling to step up when needed. His poor record against the big-6 sides is also another concerning issue. With the odds against them, the Italian has to pull off a heist with a brilliant tactical plan.
Chelsea's silver lining ahead of this clash would be the fair share of troubles faced by their opponents. Liverpool managed to paper over the cracks with late winners this season, but the lacklustre performances caught up to Arne Slot's men as they suffered back-to-back defeats in all competitions. Crystal Palace ended Liverpool's winning start to the season by scoring a late winner on the weekend. The Reds were clueless in Istanbul against Galatasaray midweek as they chased the game for 70 minutes but failed to get an equaliser. Integrating big-money signings he wanted into the squad has become a tactical nightmare for the Dutch manager, who hopes to find the right balance between control and chaos. The Reds haven't won at Stamford Bridge since 2020, and anything less than a win on Saturday would lead to two weeks of dissections over every minute detail as the league pauses for an international break.

Manchester City travel to a rejuvenated Brentford on Sunday evening on the back of a frustrating draw in the Champions League.
Gtech Community Stadium gets ready to host another opponent from Manchester in back-to-back weeks, as Manchester City visits on Sunday to close out week six of the Premier League before the international break.
Brentford played their best game under Keith Andrews when they made light work of Manchester United last weekend, beating them 3-1 at home. Igor Thiago was on target twice, and the Bees held on before scoring a late insurance goal to seal the result. Their defensive shape improved, and the attack delivered on all the potential it showed from the previous games. Consistency is their next agenda, along with fixing a leaking defence. They will be looking to sting City again at Gtech Stadium after an entertaining 2-2 draw last season. A surprise result could take them level on points with their opponents.
Manchester City's season has been hot and cold so far. Pep Guardiola's side can batter Burnley 5-1 in one game and then lose points to Monaco by conceding a last-minute penalty in another. The team is struggling for consistency as they adjust to Guardiola's altered game plan. The Cityzens play multiple systems now, thanks to Pepijn Lijnders' pressing system and added inputs. It adds an element of unpredictability but also takes a toll on the players to learn new roles. The draw against Arsenal made it well evident. But expect the Cityzens to be relentless against Brentford to begin their title charge.
