Tottenham Hotspur officially announced that Ange Postecoglou will no longer serve as the team's head coach. The following is part of the announcement:
After reviewing performance and undergoing in-depth reflection, the Club announces the termination of Ange Postecoglou’s appointment as Head Coach. Postecoglou joined Tottenham from Celtic in the summer of 2023, leading the team through a period of transformational football on the pitch. He reignited the Club’s traditional attacking style and led the team to win the UEFA Europa League in Bilbao last month, writing a new chapter in the Club’s history. However, the Board of Directors has unanimously concluded that a change is in the best interests of the Club.
Following a positive start to the 2023-2024 Premier League season, the team earned only 78 points from their last 66 Premier League matches, and the Club’s league ranking last season was the worst in its history. While there were mitigating circumstances such as injuries and the team’s decision to prioritize European competitions — with winning the Europa League this season being one of the greatest moments in the Club’s history — decisions cannot be based solely on the emotions brought by this triumph. It is crucial that the Club is able to compete on multiple fronts, and the Board believes that changing strategies will provide the strongest opportunity for future seasons and beyond. This is one of the most difficult decisions the Club has had to make, and it was not taken lightly or hastily.
