If Barcelona still fails to complete the registration of players before the start of the new La Liga season, club president Joan Laporta is prepared to provide personal guarantees from his own funds to register the players.
Barcelona is currently awaiting a ruling from La Liga's Medical Commission, which is expected to be made today or tomorrow. This ruling will clarify whether Marc-André ter Stegen's injury falls into the category of long-term injuries. Once confirmed, Barcelona will be able to utilize a certain proportion of the German goalkeeper's high salary to complete the registration of goalkeeper García and Marcus Rashford.
Barcelona hopes the Medical Commission will support its view, namely to free up some salary cap space based on Ter Stegen's injury layoff duration. Currently, the top priority of the registration work is to complete the registration of García. Barcelona expects to receive confirmation from La Liga tomorrow that Ter Stegen's injury will result in a long-term absence, allowing them to register Joan García.
If the Medical Commission's conclusion does not align with Barcelona's expectations, the club will not rule out activating the ultimate plan that has been used multiple times before—personal guarantees from board members. In fact, as early as late July, the club had already informed García's agent of this contingency plan. Therefore, even though Barcelona hopes to avoid using Plan B as much as possible, the relevant preparations are already in place.
Back in August 2022, when Barcelona signed Jules Koundé from Sevilla, they also encountered registration difficulties. At that time, it was relied on the personal guarantees of President Laporta and Finance Director Ferran Olivé that Koundé's registration was completed, with the guarantee amount being approximately €11 million.
Regardless, the club believes that the registrations of all new signings and unregistered players will be completed by the end of this week or next week at the latest.
