Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne is on the verge of finalizing a move to Serie A champions Napoli. The 33-year-old Belgian midfielder will complete his medical in Naples on Thursday before signing a two-year contract with a one-year club option, marking the end of his decade-long tenure at the Etihad Stadium.
Since joining City from Wolfsburg in 2015, he has made 422 appearances, registering 108 goals and 175 assists – a record unmatched by any midfielder in the club’s history. His trophy haul includes 6 Premier League titles, 1 UEFA Champions League, 1 FIFA Club World Cup, 2 FA Cups, 5 EFL Cups, 3 Community Shields, and 1 UEFA Super Cup.
Despite facing injury challenges in the 2024/25 campaign, De Bruyne remained a key contributor, featuring in 40 matches with 6 goals and 8 assists.
City’s decision to part ways with De Bruyne, announced in April, was met with mixed reactions. While manager Pep Guardiola praised his "unprecedented impact," the club aims to reinvest the €23 million salary space into younger talents like Jude Bellingham. De Bruyne’s final appearance for City, a substitute outing against Fulham, saw him receive a standing ovation from the traveling fans.
With medical formalities pending, Napoli fans await the official announcement of a signing. As De Laurentiis succinctly put it: “De Bruyne is the missing piece in our puzzle. The future is bright”.
