Manchester United have told Marcus Rashford and players such as Alejandro Garnacho, who want to leave the club, to delay their return to Carrington for pre-season training. It is understood, however, that Rashford is willing to return to the club's training base, and if a transfer fails, he expects to fully participate in preparations for the new season.
United have previously confirmed that Rashford, Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia will not take part in training as they hope to leave the club this summer. It is reported that they will return for pre-season training in late July, allowing time to find new clubs, though they will only appear if they need to use medical or rehabilitation facilities.
United aim to offload these five players, and if no new clubs are found, they will return to Carrington.
Rashford has been training in Spain to prepare for United's pre-season tour, helping himself regain form and get ready for action. But it has also been confirmed that the No.10 jersey he has worn since 2018 will now be handed to new signing Matheus Cunha.
Sources close to Rashford say that despite Amorim excluding him from the matchday squad last season, Rashford has no issues with returning to the club for the new season and training fully.
United value him at £40 million, but Rashford's wages mean the club may have to negotiate terms if he leaves. Rashford's representatives have previously been in contact with Barcelona, who may prefer a loan deal. At this stage of the transfer window, talks over a summer move are yet to begin.
Elsewhere, Chelsea have decided not to convert Sancho's loan deal into a permanent transfer and have paid Manchester United a £5 million fine, leaving the England winger in a state of uncertainty. Brazilian forward Antony was loaned to Real Betis last season, and Betis still hope to extend the loan. Malacia, Garnacho and others have also been told they can leave the club. According to the club's valuations, United hope to receive £142 million in transfer fees.
