Recently, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand spoke to camel.live in an interview, discussing the current situation of United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
Mainoo failed to secure any starting opportunities in the Premier League early in the current season, so he was heavily linked with a loan move away in the final days before the summer transfer window closed. It is reported that he took the initiative to request a loan move to gain regular game time, but Manchester United blocked the deal and encouraged him to stay and compete for a spot in the team.
Ferdinand held a more firm stance, stating: “I only want to see Mainoo in an England shirt or a Manchester United shirt – it’s that simple.”
He believes that, judging from Mainoo’s development path, the young footballer will never accept a bystander role for the long term.
Ferdinand warned: “If he’s already anxious about a loan move right now, then by January, if he still isn’t getting any game time, he will more urgently knock on the manager’s office door to demand a move away for playing time.”
“He has already experienced major tournament action with the England national team and delivered an extremely impressive performance – he will definitely be eager to feel that atmosphere again.”
He added: “If you think long-term for Manchester United, I believe the club must find a way to get this kid into the starting lineup. He’s a huge talent.”
