Liverpool player and Portuguese international Diogo Jota has died in a car accident at age 28, alongside his brother André Jota, a player for Penafiel FC. The two young men perished in a tragic crash just after midnight on Thursday at kilometer 65 of the A-52 highway in the Sernadilla region.
The vehicle was almost completely incinerated, and while their identities were confirmed, both bodies will be transported to a forensic institute for formal identification. According to official sources, Diogo and André were identified by the license plate of their vehicle, as their bodies were found burned beyond immediate recognition.
Upon receiving the emergency alert, the Zamora Traffic Police Unit, Provincial Council firefighters, and the CCU Sassier Emergency Coordination Center were dispatched. The CCU deployed a Medical Emergency Unit (UME) and medical staff from the Monbui Health Center to the scene.
Medical teams arriving at the site—near the municipality of Palacios de Sanabria on the A-52—could only confirm the deaths of both individuals. Diogo Jota, who married just over a week ago, leaves behind a shocked football world, his tragic passing cutting short a life that had recently celebrated love and professional triumphs.
