In the Premier League, Manchester United lost 1-3 to Brentford. Despite doubts over Amorim’s future at Old Trafford, the Manchester United manager still has the backing of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s minority shareholder.
Following Saturday’s 1-3 defeat to Brentford, United have already suffered three losses in the first six Premier League games of the season, marking a dismal start to the new campaign—which also includes elimination from the EFL Cup by Grimsby Town. The Portuguese manager was appointed to steady the ship during United’s darkest season in over half a century, yet he has only picked up 34 points from 33 league matches in charge.
However, United’s management continues to stand by the 40-year-old boss, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe has refused to panic. The Ineos Group chief believes that after the club spent £236 million on new signings this summer, Amorin deserves time to shape the team. Manchester United insiders made it clear on Sunday that no replacement candidates are being considered at present.
After the loss to Brentford saw the team slip to 14th place in the league table, Amorin insisted he was not worried about his job security: “I have full confidence in my ability to manage. Whether I stay or go is not my decision, but I will give my all every
minute I work here—I have never been someone who worries about their position.”
“It’s naturally easier to stay positive when we win, but even in defeat, I still know exactly what I need to do. We are fully capable of performing better; it’s like a roller coaster: when we win, we ride a wave of momentum, and after a loss, we have to regroup and regain that momentum with a victory.”
“In some games, you can see obvious progress, and in others, you can’t. But it’s those moments of progress that make us believe United will definitely get back on track. Ultimately, we need to focus on the next game—let’s give our all to win and improve step by step.”
