Former Atlético Madrid striker Lino’s homecoming journey has reached its final stretch: the 25-year-old Brazilian has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, set to pass Flamengo’s medical and sign a contract with the club that briefly nurtured him in his youth.
Flamengo will pay a base fee of €22 million for the transfer, plus up to €2 million in add-ons linked to goals and titles, securing Lino until 2029. This marks the club’s most expensive signing in history, underscoring their ambition to compete for the Brasileirão and Copa Libertadores.
Dozens of fans gathered in Rio to greet the "returnee from Europe" with cheers. Lino spent a short spell in Flamengo’s youth system between 2017-2018, and now he returns polished by his European experience—last season, he was named Atlético Madrid’s Player of the Year, yet chose to head home despite interest from Napoli and Sporting CP.
Coach Filipe Luís played a key role, believing Lino "can change games single-handedly." From his youth debut at São Bernardo, to stints at Gil Vicente, Valencia, and Atlético, Lino’s career has come full circle, with Flamengo as his next chapter. Once the medical is done, the Brazilian striker will officially start his new journey, bringing European - level quality to the Brasileirão.
