Arsenal Transfer Updates: Arteta hints at Gyokeres deal, Chelsea transfers deemed coincidental

Arsenal are pushing hard to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, with negotiations focusing on the structure of add-on clauses (Sporting CP wants subsequent payment terms to be easily achievable). If completed, the 27-year-old forward will be Arsenal’s fifth summer signing and a top priority.

So far, Arsenal have signed Martin Zubimendi, Kepa, Christian Norgaard, and Noni Madueke, with a total expenditure exceeding £120 million. They are also pursuing Valencia’s young defender Cristhian Mosquera.

Arteta avoided directly addressing Gyokeres’ transfer in a Singapore press conference, only stating he "could not comment on non-squad members" – but the implied tone suggested optimism about the deal. Arsenal hopes Gyokeres can join during their pre-season tour in Asia.

Regarding signing Kepa and Madueke from Chelsea this summer (Arteta has now brought in 6 players from the Blues during his tenure), Arteta called it a coincidence: "Chelsea have many top players; we only focus on targets themselves, regardless of their origin." He also congratulated Chelsea on winning the Club World Cup, noting their squad strength is undeniable.

Despite multiple new signings and over £100 million spent, Arteta emphasized: "There’s still time in the transfer window. The team is short on numbers and needs to further improve squad depth and quality. For now, we’ll focus on existing players – their performance in the past 10-15 days has been satisfying."
