Transfer Twist! Donnarumma "Opens Door" to Man City Move as Ederson Receives €10m Galatasaray Offer – Guardiola Fights to Keep No.1 Keeper

The transfer drama surrounding Manchester City’s goalkeeping position is heating up! On one side, Ederson has received a formal offer from Turkish giants Galatasaray, with the Brazilian goalkeeper—who has spent eight years at the Citizens—potentially facing a departure; on the other, PSG outcast Gianluigi Donnarumma has openly signaled his "willingness to join City," adding a key piece to this chain transfer puzzle—while Pep Guardiola is still fighting to keep Ederson as his first-choice keeper.
Latest reports confirm that Galatasaray has submitted an initial offer to City for Ederson, worth approximately €10 million (£8.6 million), but the Citizens believe this figure falls short of expectations and have made it clear they want "a higher fee." Nevertheless, the 31-year-old has been dogged by exit rumors all summer, with clubs from Turkey and the Saudi Pro League long showing interest, and Galatasaray’s offer marks the first concrete development in these talks.
However, Guardiola remained firm at his pre-match press conference on Friday: "Ederson has never come to me saying he wants to leave, or that he’s received an offer. Right now, all players are here with the team, and we’re working together… No one can be sure what will happen next!" He also confirmed that Ederson "is the team’s first-choice goalkeeper" and "is fit for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Wolves," sending a clear signal of his desire to retain the player.
Meanwhile, Donnarumma released a farewell statement on Friday evening, officially confirming his departure from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and quietly "paving the way" for a move to City. The Italian goalkeeper bared his heart to PSG fans in the letter: "From my first day here, I gave my all on and off the pitch to earn my place and defend PSG’s goal. But someone decided I could no longer be part of the team and contribute to its success. I feel disappointed and frustrated." He also expressed regret at not being able to bid farewell to fans at the Parc des Princes: "I will never forget your support—those magical nights and the sense of belonging you gave me will stay with me forever."
It’s understood Donnarumma has "opened the door to a move to Manchester City"—if he signs successfully, the obstacles to Ederson’s departure will be significantly reduced. As Turkish league champions, Galatasaray is in a strong position to sign Ederson, but they need to meet City’s demand for a higher transfer fee.
Currently, City is caught in a dilemma: balancing the transfer value of Ederson while considering the possibility of Donnarumma’s arrival; and Guardiola’s stance remains pivotal—he has always viewed Ederson as the top choice for the goalkeeper position and is reluctant to let go of this eight-year veteran easily. The "in-and-out" battle for the goalkeeper spot is likely to reach a conclusion in the early stages of the Premier League season.
