Sad news has emerged from Macau's football community: 20-year-old Wu Liting, a player for the Macau representative team, was killed in a serious car accident in the early hours of August 4. According to Macau media, a private car lost control and crashed into a railing on Avenida da Amizade, resulting in 4 deaths and 3 serious injuries, with Wu Liting among the victims.
Wu Liting, who played for Macau's Qingfeng Football Club, had represented Macau twice, including in the East Asian Football Championship qualifiers held in Hong Kong in December 2023, where he made his debut against Guam. Qingfeng Football Club released a statement on the evening of the 4th, mourning the talented young player: "His passion for football and tenacity on the field deeply inspired everyone. The entire club extends its deepest condolences to his family and will provide full support."
The accident occurred at around 6 a.m. The private car, carrying 5 men and 2 women (aged 19 to 21), lost control near the Guia Circuit grandstand on Avenida da Amizade and crashed into a railing. The front of the vehicle was severely deformed, with road railings, signs, and stone walls destroyed, and a water pipe burst. After the injured were rushed to the hospital, the female driver and two 20-year-old male passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, while a 19-year-old male passenger died later that evening, bringing the death toll to 4 with 3 injured. The Macau Public Security Police initially suggested overloading may have been a factor, and the cause is under further investigation.
