Real Madrid are in for a rare Champions League-first when they take on Kazakhstan Premier League side Kairat.

Despite the long journey from the Spanish capital to Asia, Real Madrid will be more than eager to return to the pitch in the aftermath of their Madrid derby defeat. The quick turnaround gives Los Blancos little time to dwell on the poor result before they face off with Kairat.

While the Spanish giants collected three points in their Champions League opener against Marseille, Rafael Urazbakhtin’s men suffered a 4–1 defeat to Sporting CP. Kairat now have the tall task of hosting the 15-time European champions for the first time in history.

On paper, the matchup is rather lopsided, especially with Kylian Mbappé chasing down the competition’s all-time leading goalscorers. The Frenchman, along with the entirety of his team, will be determined to get back to winning ways and make a statement in Tuesday’s clash.

2. Chelsea vs. Benfica

An out-of-sorts Chelsea welcome José Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, as Benfica travel to west London on Matchday Two of the league phase.

The Blues have picked up just a single win since the September international break (against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup), and their Champions League campaign started with a 3–1 defeat at Bayern Munich, who look like a contender to go all the way this term.

Enzo Maresca’s side have since lost back-to-back Premier League games, and Saturday’s 3–1 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion forced the club to reassert their faith in the manager, who’s currently dealing with a litany of injury absences.

Mourinho’s return will dominate the narratives surrounding this fixture, but the three-time Premier League champion with the Blues has previously resurfaced in SW6 as manager of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur since his second Chelsea exit.

The Portuguese coach succeeded Bruno Lage as Benfica boss after their 3–2 defeat to Qarabağ on Matchday 1, with the Lisbon-based outfit winning two and drawing another under Mourinho’s watch so far.

Liverpool’s second Champions League outing of the season sees them travel to Istanbul, as they face Galatasaray off the back of their first defeat of 2025–26.

Eddie Nketiah‘s stoppage-time strike saw the Reds succumb at Selhurst Park, and Arsenal’s last-gasp victory at Newcastle United on Sunday means Liverpool’s advantage at the Premier League summit has been trimmed to two points.

It was a loss that many suspected to be coming for Arne Slot’s side, who have so far been reliant on late show after late show to maintain their perfect opening to the new campaign. They looked on course to cruise to three points against Atlético Madrid in their league phase opener two weeks ago, but Marcos Llorente’s brace pegged them back. A Virgil van Dijk header ensured their continental season started with a victory, though.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, have dominated domestically in recent years but have been unable to make much of an impression on the big stage. Their Champions League campaign started horribly as they were thumped 5–1 by Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. Okan Buruk’s side are a different beast on home soil, however.

The Emirates Stadium in North London gears up to host the second matchweek encounter of the UEFA Champions League 2025-26 between English giants Arsenal and Greek outfit Olympiacos.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are one of the favourites to win the English top flight as well as the UCL. Their opening UCL game saw the North London side clinch a brilliant 2-0 win against Athletic Bilbao. As Mikel Arteta’s side eye a top-eight finish, the next game is very crucial for the Gunners.

Olympiacos are the reigning Greek champions, who began their European odyssey with a goalless draw against Pafos. They are led by Spanish gaffer Jose Luis, who has previously coached top teams in the Spanish top flight like Sevilla FC, Eibar and Alaves.

5. Monaco vs Manchester City

Location: Monaco, France

Stadium: Stade Louis II Stadium

Date: Wednesday, October 1st

Kick-off Time:  8 p.m. BST / 3 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. PT

The Stade Louis II Stadium in Monaco gears up to host the second matchweek encounter of the UEFA Champions League 2025-26 between English giants Manchester City and French outfit Monaco.

Monaco’s opening game in the UCL began in a disaster after the French side fell to a 4-1 defeat against Club Brugge. They are led by Austrian gaffer Adi Hutter, who has previously been at the managerial helm of clubs like Borussia Monchengladbach, Frankfurt and Red Bull Salzburg.

Man City are back in form after two back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Tottenham. They beat Man United in the Manchester derby and also began their UCL campaign with a 2-0 win over Antonio Conte’s Napoli.

Newcastle United vs FC Barcelona

6. Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain

Matchday two of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League will take us to the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys Stadium, where FC Barcelona will host the defending champions, Paris Saint-Germain.  Barcelona’s resurgence under Hansi Flick has been incredible, and they are showing no signs of slowing down.

Paris Saint-Germain, on the other hand, are one of the favourites to win this competition and retain their title. Last season, under the tutelage of Luis Enrique, PSG had a historic campaign as they became one of the few teams to win the “Treble”.

FCB defeated Newcastle United, while PSG thrashed Atalanta on Matchday 1 of the UCL. This upcoming match will serve as a great test for both teams and will be an unmissable affair for the fans.
