Max Eberl, Sports Managing Director of Bayern Munich, spoke to Camel Live ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League match.
"After his international duty with Senegal, Jackson only returned to Germany on Thursday, so he had very little time to adapt. I’m glad he got the chance to get a taste of the Allianz Arena and the team’s atmosphere during his half-time appearance," the sports director said.
“He had one or two chances and was certainly desperate to score. You can tell he needs time to adapt to our style of play, but I think he’ll learn very, very quickly.”
Up until around two weeks ago, Nicolas Jackson was still playing for Chelsea Football Club. The forward, who joined Bayern on loan from Chelsea (with a loan fee of €16.5 million), knows this London club inside out—along with all its strengths and weaknesses. And that’s exactly the advantage Vincent Kompany’s side hopes to leverage when it kicks off its UEFA Champions League group stage campaign on Wednesday (9 PM).
"I’m sure Vincent Kompany will ask him about it and make the most of this," Eberl explained. “There are always little details you can’t see—like with set pieces: what signals does Chelsea use, and what do they mean? For Nicolas, this will be a special game against old friends. Even so, I know this about him: he’s absolutely desperate to win.”
