The hierarchy of the Saudi Professional League is preparing to make a blockbuster bid of up to €350 million (approximately £302 million) for Real Madrid star Vinícius, which would break the world transfer record set by Neymar in 2017 (£200 million).
Although Vinícius has publicly stated his desire to stay at the Bernabéu and has held talks with Real Madrid over a new contract, no official signing has been made so far, and the two parties have yet to reach a final agreement. This unresolved situation has attracted significant attention from Saudi Arabia.
Contacts between Saudi Arabia and Vinícius have lasted for more than a year, and the relevant negotiations are not a hasty move. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that their goal is to successfully sign the Brazilian star within three years, and they have already submitted to the player a draft indicative contract worth approximately €1 billion (around £864 million) over five years, including lucrative bonus clauses.
It is reported that if Vinícius joins, he will be assigned to AFC Champions League winners Al-Ittihad, a club that "deserves the next superstar" in the eyes of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) and the Ministry of
Sports. Previously, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Karim Benzema joined other PIF-controlled clubs respectively, making Al-Ittihad a top candidate for the next superstar to settle.
Despite the fact that Real Madrid and Vinícius currently maintain a calm stance, with the player's contract running until 2027, Saudi Arabia has made it clear that regardless of success this summer, they will continue their efforts to sign Vinícius by the 2027/28 season, when he will be in his prime.
