Arsenal drew 1-1 with Chelsea in a crucial Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea legend John Terry shared his thoughts on the game after the final whistle:
"The game has just finished (in a draw), but I’m absolutely delighted with the lads’ performance. I think we were clearly the better team, even though we were down to 10 men for most of the match."
"But I felt in the first half, only one team was actively seeking victory and showing aggression. This is a London derby, and that’s exactly what we want to see from our players – slide tackles, a bit of bite."
"Unfortunately, the referee showed three yellow cards in the first 15 minutes, which killed the excitement of the game. Caicedo’s red card was uncontroversial; I think it was definitely a red. It’s a shame – his absence was a big loss for us."
"But overall, I believe only one team was pushing for the win, and that was us. I thought our attacking play was excellent – we played direct football and had some really quick counterattacks. Our defense was solid too."
"Playing with 10 men is tiring for the lads, especially considering we came off a tough game against Barcelona (on Tuesday) and an away trip to Burnley last weekend."
"The boys were fantastic, and I’m so happy for Trevoh Chalobah’s goal. We talked before the game about how important set pieces would be. Thank goodness it was us (not Arsenal) who took that set-piece chance tonight."
"Overall, I’m satisfied. We need to rest well and keep moving forward. We have to be happy with this result today because Arsenal have been steamrolling opponents every week so far – that’s why they’re top of the league right now."
"But as it stands, they haven’t pulled further away from us in the Premier League title race. I think today we proved we can compete with the best teams in the league and keep all our rivals on their toes."
