Bruno Fernandes has no intention of moving to the Saudi Professional League after the end of this season. The Portuguese midfielder rejected huge offers from Al Hilal and Al-Ittihad last summer and chose to stay at Manchester United.
Sources close to the Man Utd captain have completely denied recent claims that he is set to leave Old Trafford after next summer’s World Cup and accept a Saudi offer. This is not the case—Fernandes has a contract with Man Utd until 2027, with an option to extend for another year, and he is only interested in playing in Europe’s major leagues.
Currently, he is fully committed to Man Utd. Under the leadership of co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, this is a long-term project, and sources say Fernandes is determined to do his utmost to help Man Utd build a brighter future. He also believes Man Utd has a chance to finish in the top five of the league, thereby securing a Champions League spot for next season.
The 31-year-old has been deployed in a deeper midfield role this season. Head coach Rúben Amorim believes Fernandes can play a greater role as he gets more time on the ball—though some argue this moves him further away from the opposition’s goal, where he is more threatening.
He remains one of the most influential players in the Man Utd squad. Last month, he scored his 100th Premier League goal in the victory over Chelsea, which was also his 200th appearance in the competition. He has made 298 appearances in total, and Amorim emphasized Fernandes’ importance to the team after the match against Chelsea.
