This summer, Florian Wirtz turned down an offer from Bayern Munich and opted to join Liverpool. Bayern Munich legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists that Wirtz's choice to sign for Liverpool rather than Bayern Munich was not a good decision.
Although Wirtz provided an assist for Hugo Ekitike on his debut in the Community Shield, he has been criticized for showing "sluggish" form in the early stages of his Liverpool career. He is yet to score or register an assist in the Premier League, and he also came under fire in his home country during the September international break.
In a recent interview with Sky Germany, Wirtz bluntly refuted claims that he needs time to adapt to life at Liverpool.
But Rummenigge said: “To be honest, when it comes to Wirtz's situation, it's still heartbreaking. I feel sorry for him because I think this player would be better off at Bayern than at Liverpool.”
“We could have signed Maximilian Woltemade. But I must also say: Bayern Munich is sensible enough not to get involved in any kind of financial madness.”
“I have always said: We want to achieve success on the pitch, but please do it in a serious and financially sound way.”
"We have a top-class team, and that's true this year too. When the three currently injured players return soon, we will have a great team."
