In the 15th round of the Premier League, Liverpool drew 3-3 away to Leeds United after a late equalizer, with Mohamed Salah remaining on the bench throughout the match. His post-match interview, where he lashed out at Liverpool, caused an uproar. Wayne Rooney believes Salah is damaging his historical standing at the club.
Rooney stated on a program: “Slot must show authority, call him in and say ‘You’re not traveling to Inter Milan – your comments are unacceptable.’ Send him to the Africa Cup of Nations and let the dust settle. If it were me, I’d never let him in the matchday squad.”
Rooney emphasized that Salah must either resolve his differences with Slot or leave Liverpool. He said: “One way or another, this issue needs to be sorted out as soon as possible.”
Rooney questioned why Salah chose to make such comments publicly: “He’s completely ruining his legacy at Liverpool. It would be a shame if he throws all that away. He’s handled this completely wrong.”
Responding to Salah’s claim that “I don’t need to fight for my place every day because I’ve already earned it,” Rooney criticized the remark as inappropriate. He said: “Father Time catches up with everyone – his form is clearly not at its peak this season. We want to see him roll up his sleeves and say: ‘Alright, let me show you what I can do.’”
“To arrogantly say he doesn’t need to fight for his place because he’s already earned it – you have to be at your best every week to stay in the team. If I were his teammate, I’d never agree with those comments. Liverpool need him the most right now, and his words are nothing short of betraying the club.”
“He’s achieved extraordinary things for Liverpool, but this interview is disrespectful to his teammates, manager, and fans. I can imagine he’ll be extremely quiet in training, and this negative atmosphere will affect the new players Slot has brought in. I’m certain he’ll regret what he said in the coming years.”
