Player Updates | Ronaldo to Skip AFC Champions League 2 Away Matches Next Season; New Coach Explores Replacements

Ronaldo Relentless

Al-Nassr FC is exploring potential replacements for 40-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo as part of a strategy to manage his playing time in the upcoming season. The club reportedly aims to reduce Ronaldo’s involvement in away fixtures for the AFC Champions League 2, prompting the new coaching staff to assess alternatives.

Since joining Al-Nassr in early 2023, Ronaldo has remained a pivotal figure for the club, netting 28 goals and providing 11 assists across 34 appearances last season. However, the 40-year-old’s ability to sustain peak performance over extended periods—especially during grueling away trips in the AFC Champions League 2, which often involve long-haul travel and challenging match conditions—has become a key consideration for the coaching team. New manager Rudi Garcia, who took charge earlier this summer, is believed to be prioritizing a more balanced squad rotation system, with the goal of preserving Ronaldo for high-stakes home games and critical league fixtures while integrating fresh talent to bolster the team’s depth.
