Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand stated on his YouTube channel that Kobbie Mainoo, who has been marginalized by the Red Devils, is wasting his career, and he called on Mainoo to leave the club when the January transfer window opens.
Ferdinand said: “Did you hear the fans' reaction when Mainoo came on? That’s massive support. I saw Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes talking about this on their podcast, and I completely agree with them. If I put myself in Mainoo’s shoes, I would leave immediately – I have to.”
“Mainoo has played for England and was one of the best players in that tournament. Not many people can say that. But right now, Mainoo has wasted 18 months of his career at Manchester United. He probably should have left six months ago – he’s already stayed too long.”
“I think Mainoo’s agent, and more importantly, his family around him, must protect him. He might say, ‘I love Man Utd too much, I don’t want to leave, I want to fight here,’ but by this summer, that will be two years – you can’t waste two years of your career. A player’s career is short, and you have to make the decision that’s best for you.”
“If I were Mainoo, I would say: ‘The manager isn’t playing me now, he hasn’t given me a chance in so many games, and he won’t now. Let’s be honest – I’m surplus to requirements, so let me leave here.’”
