Reece James: We Prepared for the Bees’ Tactics, But Failed to Defend Against Them

In Premier League Matchday 4, Chelsea played out a 2-2 draw with Brentford away from home. After the game, captain Reece James stated that although the team had prepared for Brentford’s attacking characteristics, they ultimately failed to keep them at bay.

Reece James said: “Not winning is disappointing. We came here to get the three points – we fell behind at one point, but we adjusted our approach in time and got back into the game. The opposition is a strong side, and they punished our mistakes. We’re not happy with the draw, but we’ll keep fighting. We have to accept this result and move forward.”

James also pointed out the team’s poor performance in the first half, noting: “There are several reasons for the underwhelming first-half display. This is a tough away ground anyway, and games after the international break are always particularly difficult. But that’s no excuse – we should hold ourselves to a higher standard.”

Regarding the team’s defensive issues, James commented: “The opposition exploited our weaknesses with counter-attacks in the first half – we had prepared for that, but we couldn’t deal with it effectively. The second goal came from a set piece – that’s always one of their most dangerous attacking methods, and we couldn’t defend it successfully today.”
