In the 15th round of the Premier League, Manchester United defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-1 away. After the match,  Red Devils manager Rúben Amorim accepted an interview with Camel Live, where the Portuguese coach discussed topics related to the game and the team’s situation.

On Manchester United's performance in this game

We performed well overall for most of the game. Judging from our performance throughout the match, the final score is unreasonable—we deserved a completely different result.

In my opinion, the team’s display at the start of the game was perfect, really excellent. We scored quickly and gained a certain advantage, but it was precisely because of this goal that Wolves got a slight breather, reorganized their attacks, and gradually got back into the rhythm of the game. In the last attacking phase of the first half, we struggled a bit and the attack progression was not smooth. However, in the second half, we fully adjusted our state, mastered the game rhythm well, and made high-quality decisions in both attack and defense. In the end, we successfully won the game. Wolves are currently going through a difficult period, with their form and morale affected to a certain extent. It has to be said that this was a wonderful night.

I am very satisfied with the team’s performance in the second half. At the start of the second half, we clearly realized that we still had the chance to turn the tide and change the game’s direction.

What was said at halftime

What I said did not focus on tactical arrangements. Obviously, throughout the game, we have been firmly in control of the initiative and dominated the game. However, in the final phase of the attack—converting chances into goals—we did not perform at our due level. We must handle the details of the game more carefully and thoroughly. I tried my best to explain to the players that in the next 45 minutes, we have the ability and necessity to win these crucial three points, which are of great significance to us in terms of the standings, season goals and many other aspects.

On the importance of this victory

The importance of these three points is self-evident. Before this, we have played against some teams that are in their peak form and momentum, and in those games, we also created quite a few shooting opportunities. But what we need to do now is to improve the quality of our shots, making each shot more threatening. We cannot only focus on attacking and scoring goals, but also attach great importance to defensive work, do our best to protect our goal, and not give opponents an easy chance to score.

On Mason Mount's performance

What is commendable is not only the wonderful goal he scored, but also his overall way of playing—in attack, he always maintains a positive attitude, takes the initiative to find attacking opportunities, and fully commits to the attack; in defense, he also does not slack off, tries his best to participate in defense, and his defensive attitude is very diligent. He is well aware of his technical characteristics and where his advantages lie. During the game, he does not need too much possession to dominate the game. He is undoubtedly a very excellent player, and he is also famous for his hard work in daily training. He also knows very well that in the team’s tactical arrangements and squad rotation, sometimes he needs to start a game from the bench.

What does the team's rise to 6th place in the standings mean

It doesn’t really have much substantive meaning. From our own perspective, we have always felt that based on the team’s strength and performance, we should have more points than we do now. However, the results and rankings of past games have become established facts—things of the past. We should focus more energy and attention on future games and concentrate on the upcoming schedule.

Talking about the fluent cooperation of the front three

The three of them inherently have the ability to cooperate with each other and switch positions flexibly. In the game, they can freely swap positions according to the on-field situation and the opponent’s defensive layout, disrupting the opponent’s defensive rhythm. Especially when you send on a player with distinct characteristics like Matheus Cunha, who is different from a typical center forward—he has a larger range of movement and is more active and flexible—so we fully utilized this feature to make the cooperation of the front three more tacit and fluent.
