In Matchweek 17 of the Premier League, Liverpool claimed a 2-1 away win over Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool fear that club-record signing Alexander Isak suffered a suspected leg fracture during their 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The 26-year-old forward came off the bench to replace Conor Bradley in the second half and scored a clever opener in the 56th minute after latching onto a pass from Florian Wirtz, only to pick up an injury in the process of scoring. After striking the ball, he was brought down awkwardly by Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven and was unable to celebrate with his teammates due to the awkward fall.
Isak received on-pitch treatment before being helped off the field by two Liverpool medics, with Jeremy Frimpong coming on as his replacement.
Liverpool are concerned about the striker’s calf injury, which has not been confirmed yet. However, injuries of this nature usually result in the player being sidelined for at least several months.
The club fears that the 26-year-old has sustained a serious leg injury. A long-term absence would be a huge blow both to Liverpool and the £125 million-rated summer signing. Since joining the Reds from Newcastle United in a club-record move this summer, Isak has only scored two goals in the Premier League for Liverpool.
Isak has made six Premier League starts and three Champions League starts for Liverpool so far this season.
In contrast, fellow summer signing Hugo Ekitike – who scored the winning goal against the 10-man Tottenham side – has adapted more quickly to the tempo at Anfield.
Liverpool are yet to make an official comment, so the severity of the injury remains unannounced. However, scan results are expected to confirm a left leg fracture, with the recovery period typically lasting several months.
