Famous pundit Jamie Carragher discussed the 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League blockbuster that concluded in the early hours of this morning Beijing time. He also shared his views on Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo being sent off for stamping in the first half.

Carragher stated that before receiving the red card against Arsenal, Caicedo was affected by comparisons with Arsenal’s Declan Rice. In the intense 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, Caicedo picked up his first red card in a Chelsea shirt for a dangerous tackle on Martin Merino.

Carragher said: “I think right from the start of the game, we could see he was overly hyped. I believe all the discussions this week about who is better between Rice and Caicedo definitely had an impact on him, which is understandable. It was a crucial match, and he ended up getting involved in a foul. Yes, it was a red card, but that was a stupid tackle—he didn’t need to do that at all.

“He’s an excellent player with great tackling ability, but I think he can be a bit clumsy with his tackle angles. I’m surprised this was his first career red card.

“I still remember his foul on Ryan Gravenberch in the League Cup final a few years ago. It’s not because he’s a dirty player, but that foul was a typical example. He was competing for the ball with his back to his own goal, and there were actually opposing players covering behind him—he didn’t need to get involved in that challenge at all.

“He has to be more careful in this aspect. He’s a top player, but he really needs to learn from this incident. I’m sure the manager will have a word with him if he publicly admits it was definitely a red card, and it’s great to hear such an acknowledgment.”
