Patrick Kluivert, a former Barcelona player and ex-Indonesia head coach, still keeps a close eye on Barcelona’s current situation. In an interview with the media, he shared his views on Robert Lewandowski’s role at the club — and he firmly believes the Polish striker still has plenty of football left in him.
“Despite being plagued by injuries this season, Lewandowski remains in good form. If I were Barcelona, I would definitely consider keeping him for another year. I’ve watched all his games, and for a player of his age, his physical condition is exceptional. He may be in the final phase of his career and can’t start every match, but whenever he steps onto the pitch, he’s a major threat to opponents. I have no doubts about his ability. He scored a huge number of goals last season — those figures speak for themselves, and very few players can achieve that.”
Lewandowski’s contract expires at the end of this season, and Barcelona will only make a decision after evaluating his performance this term. The Polish forward hopes to stay for another year, but only if he meets the set targets. His recent injury hasn’t helped his case for an extension, yet it’s equally true that when he’s on the pitch, he delivers outstanding performances. For this reason, Barcelona’s sports management is already scouting potential replacements in the transfer market. Names like Eta Eyong and Dusan Vlahovic have emerged, though their top target remains Julian Alvarez.
