Although Alexander Isak issued a bombshell statement accusing the club of "breaking promises," Newcastle United currently has no intention of letting him depart.
The club has been seeking alternatives throughout the summer, and if they had signed one of their top targets, they would have considered selling Isak to Liverpool, as they are aware of his desire to leave.
However, the message from the club’s hierarchy tonight is that Isak will be told he will stay at the club. The hierarchy believes that after the forward made incendiary comments, they have no choice but to stand their ground.
Last summer, Isak and his camp were furious when new sporting director Paul Mitchell informed Isak that there would be no contract extension.
Former co-owner Amanda Staveley had discussed improving his contract terms with them in the spring, believing Isak deserved an extension and a pay rise.
This sparked Isak's dissatisfaction, and he resolved to leave, informing the club of his intention to depart at the end of last season.
Nevertheless, Newcastle United has been working to find a replacement but has so far failed to do so. Insiders believe this prompted Isak to issue the statement, indicating that there is no going back.
