Neville & Carragher Criticize Gordon’s Recent Performances

In a Premier League match that ended earlier, Manchester United beat Newcastle United 1-0. After the game, Gary Neville criticized Newcastle United player Anthony Gordon’s performance in an interview.

In this match, Gordon completely failed to show his agile qualities. For most of the first half and the second half, he struggled to create threatening scoring opportunities. Neville believes that Gordon’s style of play in this game completely buried his own advantages. He said: “This is Gordon’s typical problem—he positions himself too wide and too deep, playing like a defensive midfielder.”

“Gordon positions himself too wide and too deep, completely out of the key areas where he can score goals and influence the game. If I were the right-back marking Gordon and saw him play like this, I would definitely be secretly happy.”

In addition, Jamie Carragher also talked about his views on Gordon’s performance. Carragher said that Gordon had the opportunity to establish himself as a top Premier League player. 18 months ago, he became one of the best players in his position with brilliant performances, but his lack of consistency prevented him from making further breakthroughs in his career.

Carragher said: “I think 18 months ago, Gordon was one of the best left wingers in the Premier League, but he never took the next step—neither becoming the core of Newcastle United nor joining the ranks of top Premier League players.”

“When Newcastle United was in trouble for violating the Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Gordon almost transferred to Liverpool. I wonder if this incident affected his form… After all, he is a Liverpool fan. Although Gordon came through Everton’s academy, his career has never reached the height expected by the outside world. He definitely has the potential to become a top player, and the key issue is consistency—that is also the biggest dividing line between ordinary players and top players.”
