A journalist recently discussed multiple topics related to Manchester United during a media podcast interview, including the Red Devils’ January midfield transfer targets.

Regarding Manchester United’s Midfield Reinforcements

Manchester United has not completely ruled out the possibility of signing a midfielder in January. Previously, players such as Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Nottingham Forest’s Elliott Anderson, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams, and VfB Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller were all part of the discussion. However, as things stand, these five players are only likely to be available for signing next summer at the earliest.

In the mid-season window, Atlético Madrid’s Conor Gallagher and Ruben Neves are the two midfielders Manchester United is more likely to sign. Additionally, reports have identified Wolves’ Joao Gomes as the club’s third transfer target, but internal sources at Manchester United have downplayed this in recent weeks.

Regarding Conor Gallagher

This summer, Manchester United made a loan bid for former midfielder Conor Gallagher, which was rejected by Atlético Madrid. It is understood that Gallagher is open to returning to the Premier League, but any transfer will require Atlético Madrid to soften their stance. The La Liga side made it clear to Manchester United during the summer transfer window that they would only sell the 25-year-old.

Atlético Madrid values Gallagher at around €40 million (£35 million), and sources indicate that Manchester United does not intend to pay this fee to sign him outright.

Regarding Ruben Neves

Ruben Neves has not signed a new contract with Al Hilal, having joined the Saudi Pro League club from Wolves in the summer of 2023. Currently, Neves is not insistent on joining a club with UEFA Champions League qualification, but he hopes to join a team project where he believes goals can be achieved within two seasons.

Neves is also willing to reduce his current tax-free salary, which stands at around £300,000 per week. Al Hilal still hopes to retain Neves, but due to his contract situation, the club is willing to listen to offers in excess of £15 million.

Regarding Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo hopes to join Napoli on loan to gain more game time ahead of the 2026 World Cup, as his place in the national team squad is currently uncertain. However, Manchester United has no intention of selling or loaning Mainoo, and this stance is unlikely to change unless the club signs a new midfielder.
