Manchester United have rejected offers for Harry Maguire from anonymous Premier League and Italian clubs.
Numerous domestic and international suitors have been informed that the English defender is likely to sign a new contract and spend the remainder of his career at Old Trafford.
However, whether this will happen remains to be seen. This summer, three Premier League teams and two Italian clubs explored signing Maguire, but all had their approaches rejected.
The 32-year-old currently has a £190,000-per-week contract that expires at the end of next season. While his team declined to comment, it is believed he is keen to stay at Manchester United.
In 2019, he joined Manchester United from Leicester City for £80 million, setting a world record transfer fee for a defender at the time.
Maguire’s wish is to emulate the likes of Denis Irwin, Gary Pallister, Steve Bruce, and Bryan Robson, all of whom are regarded by club fans as key pillars of Manchester United.
Currently, no talks over a new contract for Maguire have yet taken place between the two parties, but it is understood that the message conveyed by Manchester United to suitors is that they are eager to keep him.
For Maguire’s part, former Manchester United managers José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who brought him to Old Trafford, could offer him a move to Turkey, while Galatasaray have also shown interest in him.
French giants Monaco and Marseille are closely monitoring the situation of the player, who could be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Clubs outside England can negotiate pre-contract agreements six months before the end of a player’s contract. This means that if Manchester United and Maguire fail to reach an agreement, his departure could be sealed as early as January next year.
