Given that Liverpool is not leading the race for Marc Guehi, Crystal Palace is considering selling their captain in the January transfer window. Hours before the closure of the summer transfer window, Guehi’s move to Anfield fell through, and the centre-back was forced to stay at Crystal Palace. His current contract will expire at the end of this season.
Crystal Palace insists on finding a replacement before approving any sale, which led to the collapse of Guehi’s proposed move to Liverpool. It is understood that Crystal Palace initially hoped the 25-year-old would see out his contract, maximize his potential, and give them 12 months to find a successor.
However, due to the external interest in Guehi, Crystal Palace is now considering selling him in January to avoid losing all his value entirely.
It was originally expected that Liverpool would sign Guehi again in January or next summer, but Spanish rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid have already tried to get Guehi to consider a move abroad.
Bayern Munich is among several other European clubs monitoring him, and they hope to sign Guehi as soon as possible, benefiting from the defender’s interest in playing overseas.
Sources added that Crystal Palace will not sell the player at a low price in January, as they currently have no financial pressure to sell, and Guehi’s performance has not been affected in the slightest by the temptation from numerous top clubs.
Some senior officials at Crystal Palace hope that the team’s strong performance in the Premier League—with hopes of competing for European qualification—may convince Guehi to realize his ambitions at Crystal Palace.
Guehi himself has not made any statement; he still intends to seek a new direction for his career whenever the opportunity arises.
