Only 5 Appearances This Season: Journalist - Liverpool Should Give 17-Year-Old Ngoumoh More Time

A Liverpool correspondent wrote a post-match column after the club's 0-0 draw with Leeds United, discussing several situations regarding the Reds.

Ngoumoh Needs More Game Time

Ngoumoh only played 12 minutes in this game, but he has fully proven that he deserves more first-team opportunities. The 17-year-old scored the winning goal away to Newcastle United earlier this season, but has since only made 4 sporadic appearances in the Premier League (just 3, 6, 20 and 12 minutes respectively).

However, he achieved what few of his teammates did in this game - making Leeds United's defenders nervous. When Ngoumoh dribbled forward, his unconventional breakthrough style left the defensive players flustered. For most of the game, these away players had been calm and composed.

Federico Chiesa, who also came off the bench, also forced the opponent into a passive position by attacking the defense. Although he failed to create chances directly, he at least put constant pressure on the defensive end - a scene that has been scarce in previous games.

Ngoumoh's current situation is slightly awkward: he needs to strengthen Liverpool's bench, so he cannot play for the youth team, but it is difficult for him to get substantial game time. Training with the first team every day can certainly gain valuable experience, but the lack of actual game practice is always a regret. Perhaps this status quo is worth changing.
