Joe Gomez’s future is closely tied to the outcome of Liverpool’s pursuit of Crystal Palace player Marc Guehi on the transfer deadline day.
Senior Anfield sources stated after Sunday’s match against Arsenal that the club’s longest-serving player – who is also a target for AC Milan – is unlikely to leave.
Gomez came off the bench in the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace and played a key role.
Liverpool’s hopes of signing Guehi are slim, as Crystal Palace is currently unwilling to sanction the sale of the £35 million captain. Head coach Oliver Glasner has made it clear that he is desperate to keep Guehi.
If Guehi does not join Liverpool today, Gomez will join Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, and Giovanni Leonardi as one of the club’s four senior center-backs. However, if Crystal Palace sells Guehi to Liverpool, Gomez could leave on a permanent basis.
