Liverpool has confirmed its 22-man squad for the Champions League competition stage, with Federico Chiesa absent from the list.
Under UEFA regulations, each club can register a maximum of 25 players in their "List A", of which at least 8 places must be reserved for homegrown players—defined as players who have received training at the club or another club under the same football association for at least 3 years between the ages of 15 and 21.
Liverpool has opted for a 22-man squad on this occasion, which includes new signings such as Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Kai Kerkes, Leoni, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Freddie Woodman.
However, due to the squad’s maximum limit of 17 non-homegrown players, Chiesa failed to make the competition stage lineup. Ngoumouha is not considered a homegrown player as he only joined Liverpool last year.
Also excluded from the list are Nyoni and Jaden Danso, both of whom featured in last season’s Champions League. Despite being eligible, they can be registered in "List B" due to their age and youth academy backgrounds. Clubs can register List B players an unlimited number of times throughout the season and update the list before each match.
UEFA regulations explain: “A player is eligible for List B if they were born on or after January 1, 2004, and have been eligible to play for the club for two consecutive years since their 15th birthday, or a total of three years (with a maximum of one internal loan within the same football association not exceeding one year during this period). Players aged 16 can also be included in List B if they have been registered with the club for two consecutive years prior to this.”
If Liverpool progresses to the knockout stages, they can replace up to three players in List A, provided they adhere to the 25-player limit.
