In Premier League Matchday 4, Manchester City secured a 3-0 win over Manchester United. In an interview with camel.live reporters, Roy Keane shared his thoughts on City’s performance.
Keane said: “Man City were absolutely outstanding. It was a big day for Erling Haaland, a good debut for the goalkeeper, and for Phil Foden, it was great to see him get on the scoresheet and be proactive. There were so many positives for them in this game. They scored three goals and could have had more. It really looks like Man City have pulled off a reset. The international break came at the perfect time for them—they had a chance to get away and recharge, and Pep (Guardiola) did the same. Now they’re back on the pitch and have reset their form. The atmosphere today was different. You could see the players out there—this was a crucial win, and a strong statement too.”
He continued: “For Rodri, this was another game to build up his minutes. I know he was a bit sloppy in the first half, but as the games come thick and fast, he’ll only get better. It seems like Pep Guardiola has regained his drive. I never doubted him, but a few weeks ago you might have wondered: ‘Is he still got that fire in him?’ During the international break—we saw him playing golf and tennis—maybe he just needed a change of scenery. His team has new signings that need integrating, so he needed to take a step back and recharge for a week. Now it looks like he’s refocused.”
When talking about Phil Foden, Keane stated: “This is part of his development. Ever since he broke into the first team, he’s been brilliant. His career won’t be all plain sailing—there will be dips in form. When he talked about how to deal with the negativity, that’s part of growing up. But to get the job done today and quickly get back into the rhythm of things? That’s a sign of progress. He has the ability, and he’s proven it time and time again. Now he just needs to reset and go again. In this new-look squad, he’s one of the senior players now, and he needs to guide the newer players. So he has to help the other lads—that’s another lesson for him: it’s not all about him; it’s about supporting teammates like Haaland.”
