The United States men's national soccer team has announced its squad for the September international window. Among the selections is 28-year-old Jonathan Klinsmann, son of legendary coach Jürgen Klinsmann, who has received his first call-up to the U.S. senior national team and will feature in the upcoming friendly matches against South Korea and Japan.
Currently playing for Serie B club Cesena, Jonathan Klinsmann has earned his first senior U.S. call-up and secured a spot in head coach Mauricio Pochettino's 23-man squad. Back in 2017, he had already represented the United States U-20 team at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, helping the side advance to the quarterfinals.
It is reported that Jonathan Klinsmann holds dual German-U.S. citizenship. He grew up in the United States, where he attended school and developed through the American soccer system. He was a key player for the U.S. youth teams at the U-17, U-20, and U-23 levels, and has long been identified as a priority prospect by U.S. Soccer. He has previously stated that he hopes to step out of his father's enormous shadow and carve out his own legacy with the U.S. national team.
