After Inter Miami defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 to win the MLS Cup, club owner David Beckham spoke about his feelings following the victory in an interview.
Beckham said: “Winning a trophy as a player and now as a team owner is undoubtedly one of the greatest moments of my career. I don’t think anyone has done that before, so it feels amazing to be the first.”
Beckham continued: “I came to Los Angeles as a player and now own this team. My promise to the US and MLS was to bring the best players – we brought the best, and we achieved success tonight. This is one of the nights I will never forget.”
Beckham concluded: “When I first arrived here nearly 20 years ago, I knew it would be a challenge, but honestly, I knew the US had enormous potential for this sport. I’ve always promised the commissioner that my commitment wasn’t just to the LA Galaxy, but to elevate the sport in this country and make it stronger. To play the last MLS game of the season in this stadium and win the Cup final tonight is a fairytale ending.”
