In the recently concluded 7th round of the Premier League, Manchester City defeated Brentford 1-0 away, with Erling Haaland scoring the winning goal. After the match, Jamie Carragher spoke highly of the Norwegian striker’s performance.
Haaland has scored in 9 consecutive club and national team matches, netting 12 goals in 9 games for Manchester City this season.
Carragher commented: “I think what we are witnessing is the greatest goalscorer in the history of English football leagues.”
“I really can’t remember Jimmy Greaves, Dixie Dean, and those players from many years ago. The ones I can think of are Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Harry Kane, and Ian Rush from my hometown club Liverpool.”
“In my opinion, there is a difference between a great centre-forward or striker and a great goalscorer. I think what we are seeing now is something unprecedented in this sport. And let’s not forget that Manchester City’s previous goalscorer was Sergio Agüero – one of the best goalscorers we have ever seen. But Haaland is on a completely different level; he is the best.”
