According to media reports, after Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez lashed out at Barcelona and the referee scandal, La Liga president Javier Tebas responded by calling it a “publicity stunt.”
Florentino once again sharply criticized Barcelona and the Negreira case at Real Madrid’s Christmas dinner. In response, La Liga president Javier Tebas quickly issued a lengthy post on social media, stating that Pérez’s remarks were not "indignation" but a "publicity stunt." Tebas also questioned why Real Madrid was the last club to participate in the case against Barcelona.
Florentino Pérez demanded a fair handling of the "Negreira case" and criticized the referees: “During the match against Alavés, the referee threatened us.”
Tebas attached a video clip of Florentino’s speech, in which the latter questioned: “How can we forget the biggest scandal in football history? We will never forget it. I ask: why have the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and La Liga been so passive when they should uphold the fairness of the game and pursue justice? What is the reason for their inaction? I believe one day we will know... They must do so to avoid being seen as accomplices in this serious case.”
Tebas warned against "making up stories" and pointed out that the order of involvement of all parties in the legal proceedings of the Negreira case is clear:
"First the prosecutor, then Estrada Fernández’s lawyers, then La Liga (even though we took action before the prosecutor), and finally Real Madrid." He retorted: "Don’t you remember why you were the last one?" in response to Pérez’s mention of “passivity.”
The La Liga president emphasized that in judicial proceedings, the order of involvement is not determined by personal will but follows the sequence stipulated by law. He also noted that the questions Real Madrid tried to raise in the trial have already been answered by Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde. Therefore, Tebas believes Pérez’s remarks are not only a disregard for judicial procedures but also an insult to the intelligence of anyone who understands how courts operate.
He concluded: "This isn’t indignation, it’s a publicity stunt. La Liga doesn’t make up stories, but others do."
