Recently, Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni stated in an interview with camel.live that the upcoming Conmebol-UEFA Cup (Copa América-Euro Cup) ahead of next year’s World Cup leaves him uncomfortable.
The Conmebol-UEFA Cup match between Argentina and Spain is scheduled for March next year. Regarding this, Scaloni said: “I’d rather not play this match before the World Cup, because I think there was time to hold it earlier.”
“Spain can’t participate because they have the UEFA Nations League—something they created themselves. And we South American countries are greatly affected by this, because we can’t play against European nations since they have their own competitions.”
“Now we’re available to play, but they aren’t, because they’re in the middle of their World Cup qualifiers. To have such an important match take place just two months before the World Cup is something I really didn’t expect, but right now everything is still very uncertain.”
“Winning is extremely difficult, especially against a team of that caliber—it’s even more complicated. We can’t afford to make mistakes; what matters is feeling that we have what it takes to compete for the World Cup. We’ll work hard over the next few months and hope no players get injured.”
