On August 15th, Bayern Munich officially announced that Kingsley Coman would leave the club to join Saudi side Al-Nassr. Bayern Munich did not disclose any information regarding the transfer fee amount.
Bayern Munich sports director Max Eberl had expected to directly invest the transfer fee from Coman's sale into the signing of new players. However, after Coman's departure, Eberl approached the supervisory board hoping to sign a successor, a move that "surprised" Bayern Munich's top officials.
Internal club rumors suggest that Eberl did not need to sell Coman at all, as club senior management believes that a replacement for Coman should have been proposed as part of a comprehensive plan before Coman was sold, rather than being put forward afterward. Eberl sold the French player because, since taking office a year and a half ago, he has been receiving instructions to downsize the squad and reduce salaries. Eberl had thought he would be able to reinvest the money in a replacement, but he has been hamstrung and is now looking for loan signings in the transfer market.
