Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club (Wolves) have officially announced the sacking of head coach Vitor Pereira, and the club has now turned its attention to identifying a replacement, with three former top-flight managers among the key candidates.
Brendan Rodgers, the ex-Liverpool boss who departed Celtic just a week ago, is the priority candidate for Wolves’ management. Having previously proven his ability in the Premier League—guiding Liverpool to consecutive top-four finishes—Rodgers has signaled openness to a return to England’s top tier, though formal contact between the two parties is yet to take place.
Beyond Rodgers, former Manchester United managers Erik ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are also on the candidate shortlist. Both coaches left Old Trafford within the past few months: Ten Hag was dismissed after a inconsistent spell that fell short of United’s expectations, while Solskjaer stepped down in late 2021 (with this being his first major managerial link since then).
Meanwhile, Gary O’Neil—who was sacked by Wolves’ management back in December last year—has re-emerged as a contender. Despite the recent split between O’Neil and the club, Fosun, Wolves’ parent company, holds a highly positive view of his work during his previous tenure, particularly his ability to stabilize the team amid mid-season turbulence.
