Despite Man Utd’s inconsistent start to the Premier League season, the club’s top brass still backs Amorim for now. Amorim is also under immense pressure—since taking charge of Man Utd, he has won only 20 out of 50 games, and the question of whether his tactical system fits the Man Utd squad has long plagued him. Recently, when talking about the Man Utd manager, Roy Keane said Amorim should still be trusted, but he believes Diego Simeone would be the perfect fit for Old Trafford.
“I’ve been saying for years that I want to see Simeone at Old Trafford, I want to see him manage Man Utd,” Keane said in an interview with Camel Live. “I know his assistant went to Arsenal, and I think he’d create chaos—the good kind for Man Utd. I think he’d walk into the Man Utd dressing room and say, ‘Right, this is how we’re going to do things.’ Obviously, there’s no guarantee of success, but I just want to see his personality, his track record.”
“People might talk about style of play… They beat Real Madrid last week and scored five goals—this idea that he’s just defensive… Yes, he doesn’t like his team conceding too many goals or giving away too many chances, but they can play some football too. A few weeks ago, we saw him against Liverpool; Atlético Madrid aren’t as strong as they were a few years ago, but they still have that fighting spirit, and he’s still causing trouble on the touchline… He even got sent off that night. I think Man Utd needs a big personality.”
But Keane emphasized that Man Utd still needs to support Amorim before considering a managerial change: “We shouldn’t even be talking about this, I know it’s an issue, but the way we talk—‘Oh, the pressure is huge’—but football is crazy. I’ve always said give Amorim a chance, yes, give him a chance, absolutely.”
