Recently, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt shared their concerns about the recruitment of several Manchester City executives to work at Manchester United during an interview with Camel Live.
Scholes said, “Right now, Man Utd already has Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada, and some other people. I don’t think Man Utd should do this. Manchester City has performed brilliantly over the past decade, and of course we hope their joining can bring some positive impacts to the Red Devils—but this is not the result that Man Utd people want. We don’t want this, and I think the fans probably don’t either.”
“People always talk about ‘DNA’, but now no one in the club really understands what a ‘Man Utd person’ should be like. Darren Fletcher is the only one who knows what it means to be a Man Utd player. You know, you don’t have to be the best player, but you must have the courage to play for this club, right?”
When talking about Man Utd’s “Manchester City-ization”, Nicky Butt said, “It’s incredible—now Manchester City staff are joining Man Utd one after another. Real Madrid would never poach people from Barcelona, and vice versa.”
“If a club has a solid DNA, it should carefully select really good coaches—that’s exactly what Man Utd did when they signed Kieran McKenna before. When you see talented people at Tottenham, you bring them in to let them bring new things to the team. But now, apart from Darren Fletcher, there are no more such true ‘one of our own’ in Man Utd.”
