Manchester United defender Harry Maguire may move to the Saudi Pro League after his contract expires next summer, with Al Nassr and Al-Ittihad having expressed interest in him.
The 32-year-old Maguire joined Manchester United in 2019 for a record transfer fee of £80 million for a defender. His contract with the club is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Although Manchester United holds an option to extend his contract for a further year, the possibility of renewal is low as the team is focusing on building for the future.
Currently, Saudi clubs Al Nassr and Al-Ittihad have identified Maguire as a transfer target and are prepared to offer him a lucrative contract. Notably, Al Nassr's star player Cristiano Ronaldo previously played alongside Maguire at Manchester United. According to regulations, Maguire will be free to negotiate with other clubs starting from January 1 next year.
Maguire may consider signing a significant contract in the latter stages of his career and joining the Saudi Pro League as a free agent next summer. The centre-back, who has earned 64 caps for England, recently failed to make the England squad managed by Thomas Tuchel. With the challenge of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup intensifying, his international career is at a turning point, which has also become a factor for Maguire to consider moving to Saudi Arabia.
It is worth mentioning that when talking about his contract situation in August this year, Maguire said: “Last year, the clause was in their hands, so I had no choice. I didn't have a say. They just activated it, and then it was extended.”
“I'm pretty sure the club realized this summer that I couldn't leave the club on any terms. Other clubs would inquire about me and my stance regarding the contract.”
