Man Utd Senior Management Still Back Amorim; Sources Close to Him Surprised by His Job Security

Despite suffering the worst Premier League start in 33 years following the defeat to Manchester City, Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim still retains the support of the club’s senior management. Sunday’s humiliating 0-3 loss to City means Amorim has secured only 8 wins in 31 Premier League matches in charge of United, a dismal record. A source close to Amorim admitted that it is truly incredible that there has been no real threat to his position, even though he has lost 16 of those 31 league games.

Manchester United spent £225 million in the summer transfer window to sign four players, yet they have won just one of their first four league matches this season—and have only scored one non-penalty goal in those games.

United’s poor league form was further compounded by the embarrassment of being knocked out of the EFL Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town last month. The club’s only remaining chances of winning a trophy this season now lie in the FA Cup and the Premier League itself.

The 40-year-old Amorim is under contract with Manchester United until 2027, and he has once again emphasized that he will not abandon his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation. The Portuguese manager stressed that if United wants to change the formation, the club will have to replace its head coach.

“Guys, I understand this, and I accept it,” Amorim said when talking about his league record. “At Manchester United, this is absolutely not the kind of record you should have. There are a lot of things—you have no idea what has happened in these past few months—but I accept this. I will not change.”

“When I want to change my philosophy, I will take the initiative to do so myself. If you want me to change when I don’t want to, then you’ll have to replace me. Every time we lose a game, we talk about this. I don’t believe in that, in systems, or anything else. I only believe in my way, and I will keep playing the way I do until I want to change myself.”

“What I mean is, I will give my all. I will do everything I can, and always put the club’s interests first. That has always been my mindset.”
