Chelsea will donate part of the Club World Cup bonus paid to players to the families of Diogo Jota and André Silva.
The west London club claimed the title of FIFA’s newly expanded tournament by defeating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey this July. Their success in the competition brought approximately $114.6 million in revenue to the club.
Chelsea then allocated $15.5 million (approximately £11.4 million) to be distributed equally among the players who represented Chelsea, managed by Enzo Maresca, in the tournament.
By calculation, the total value of the bonus each player received exceeded $500,000, excluding currency exchange fees from USD to GBP, as well as related employer costs, taxes, and social security costs.
The club and players have jointly decided that the families of Jota and Silva will also receive a donation of equal value.
