In the 14th round of the Premier League this season, Newcastle United drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur at home. Eddie Howe accepted an interview after the game.

On the match overall

Newcastle weren’t at their best today, but we still fought our way into a good position. However, we ultimately failed to defend that corner. It’s really disappointing to get this result after putting in so much effort.

On Guimarães’ goal in today’s game

Guimarães performed exceptionally well – that strike was top-class. He made a difference for the team, and his enthusiasm, passion and energy played a key role.

On the penalty awarded to Newcastle today

I’ve only just seen the replay. That Tottenham defender wasn’t looking at the ball at all; his focus was entirely on Dan Burn. I think it’s likely the right call.

On Gordon

I’m very satisfied with his performance. He undoubtedly changed the game’s tempo – whether it’s energy, pace or directness in attack, he was brilliant after coming on as a substitute.

On Newcastle’s two goals conceded today

We’re disappointed with the first goal – it was just a routine cross, and our defending wasn’t good enough. As for the second goal, we failed to control the first ball and then couldn’t stop the opponent’s bicycle kick. That one hurt us a lot.
