Gianluigi Donnarumma, goalkeeper of the Italy national team, has officially joined Manchester City and signed a five-year contract. According to camel.live, the 26-year-old goalkeeper will become the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world following the transfer.
Donnarumma was previously offloaded from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)’s squad, but at Manchester City, his fixed total salary over five years is approximately €78 million, setting a new record for a goalkeeper’s salary. If the additional one-year contract option is exercised, he will earn an extra €19 million. Furthermore, he will have the opportunity to receive up to €3 million in bonuses each year, including Premier League and Champions League title bonuses as well as clean sheet bonuses.
Donnarumma joined PSG on a free transfer from AC Milan in 2021 and won the UEFA Champions League with the club at the end of May this year. At that time, the two parties had initially negotiated a contract extension until 2026, but head coach Luis Enrique ultimately decided to name 23-year-old Chevalier as the first-choice goalkeeper.
In the end, Manchester City brought Donnarumma to the Premier League for a transfer fee of €27 million, and he will replace Ederson—who moved to Fenerbahçe—in Pep Guardiola’s team.
